After minister's raid, director too visits Jalandhar civil hospital

After the health minister visited the civil hospital on Friday, director of health and family welfare Karanjit Singh also reached the hospital on Saturday and inspected the health services.

Singh, along with medical superintendent Jagjit Singh Cheema, civil surgeon RL Bassan went to each ward including maternity, emergency, trauma, burns ward, OPDs and intensive care unit of the hospital and interacted with patients.

Apart from the director, a team of senior engineers of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation also surveyed various wards of the hospital building which needed immediate repairs.

The  inspection process started at around 11am and lasted till 4pm. He also held a meeting with doctors and the nursing staff of the civil hospital after inspection. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Karanjit Singh said that it was not a raid but just a routine inspection of services and infrastructure at the hospital.

Singh said that he had visited each ward of the hospital and had prepared a list of the problems and shortcomings including the shortage of staff, medicines and machineries.

He said that the ICU is really a serious issue and it needed total revamp immediately. He said that he would prepare a report on all these issues and would submit a detailed report to the minister within the next week.

Meanwhile, patients at the trauma ward continued to face hardships. The unscheduled power cut on Saturday for more than three hours.

Sandeep Gopala, a resident of Rama Mandi, said he had come here for his surgery but ii got delayed due to non-availability of electricity.

He said that power is a continuous problem in the ward. Another patient Harbans Singh, a resident of Ladhewali, said, "Patients have to remain in dark for hours whenever power cut occurs as the generator also fails to start at most of times.
