Army recruits630; rally on till June 13

The army recruitment rally at Dogra Grounds in Jalandhar Cantonment on Thursday received a stupendous response. Of more than 2,300 youth who ran in the physical test for the jobs of soldier (general duty), soldier (technical) and clerk/storekeeper (technical), 630 were selected.


The rally open to people from Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr will end on June 13. On Tuesday, the contestants from Kapurthala and Nawanshar appeared before the recruitment team, and in the fitness test, participated in 1.6-kilometre run, medical examination, ditch jumping, and push-up rounds.

On Wednesday (June 11), the candidates from Dasuya and Hoshiarpur tehsils of Hoshiarpur district will be screened. The participants from Mukerian and Garhshankar tehsils will be screened the next day, followed by the young men from Jalandhar on Friday (June 13). Candidates for the job of soldier (technical) will be screened on all days.

Constable dies under mysterious circumstances

A 22-year-old Punjab Police constable died under mysterious circumstances in a resort on Chintpurni road on Thursday. Officials said he died of heart attack. Lovedeep Singh, who was deployed with Jalandhar (rural) police, was on special duty at Chohal due to the Mata Chintpurni fair.
