In what may create a tricky situation for SAD-BJP coalition governments in Punjab and the at the Centre, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has been declared as the star campaigner by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) during assembly polls in Haryana.

An announcement in this regard was made by INLD member of Parliament from Hisar, Dushyant Chautala, while talking to select mediapersons in Jalandhar on Sunday, where he was to attend a function organised by the Hind Samachar Group.

With INLD chief Om Parkash Chautala and his elder son Ajay Chautala in jail, Dushyant, who is assisting his uncle Abhay Chautala for the preparations of assembly polls in Haryana, said Parkash Singh Badal was the primary source of inspiration for the entire Chautala family.

“Badal and other SAD leaders would campaign not only for SAD candidates in Ambala and Rauri, they would campaign for INLD across Haryana. Barring a few state leaders, the BJP high-command has no problem with the arrangment,” said the Hisar MP.

In the recent Lok Sabha polls as well, Badal had campaigned for INLD in Haryana and in his speeches he claimed that he would make efforts to bring INLD and BJP together. But situation has changed now with BJP winning 7 out of 10 seats in Haryana in Lok Sabha.

Dushyant said that Om Parkash Chautala would be the chief minister if INLD came to power in Haryana. When asked how his grandfather, a convict in a teacher recruitment scam can be the CM, he said, “Law debars a convicted person from contesting the polls but does not stop him from becoming the CM”.

Asked if coming to power, the INLD would advocate for scraping of separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management  Committee (HSGMC) Act recently passed by Haryana government, the MP said, it’s a religious matter and party would leave up to the Sikh community of Haryana and the Akal Takht to decide on the matter.
