Punjab State Schedule Castes Commission chairman Rajesh Bagha inspected the midday meal being served to students at the district's government schools, on Friday. Accompanied by commission members Parkash Singh Garhdiwala and Bharti Kenedy and officials of health and education departments, Bagha visited a primary school in Kamalpur and primary and secondary schools in Piplanwala and tested the quality of food.

He asked civil surgeon Dr Surjit Singh to constitute teams and send them to various schools to know the standard of food being served to children.

He warned that no negligence would be tolerated. He said the Commission would write to the central government to provide LPG cylinders to all schools of the state to cook mid day meal. He asked the school authorities to ensure that proper hygiene was maintained while cooking the meals. He said that surprise checks would continue in the coming days.
