Jalandhar (north) MLA KD Bhandari on Thursday stepped in to sort out differences between mayor Sunil Jyoti and senior deputy mayor Kamaljeet Singh Bhatia and brought both of them to the talking table.

“There was nothing serious. Most of the misunderstandings were result of communication gap. I have directed both of them to interact with each other regularly,” Bhandari told HT.

The fissures between Jyoti and Bhatia came to fore on Wednesday, when Bhatia didn't attend the  finance and contracts committee meeting of the municipal corporation.

Earlier in the day, mayor Sunil Jyoti and MC commissioner Vinay Bublani reached the office of senior deputy mayor Bhatia to deliberate on various issues raised by the latter on Wednesday.

Talking to HT, Bhatia said, “I have discussed all the issues with the mayor, commissioner and even MLA Bhandari. I have been promised that in future SAD members would be taken into confidence before taking tactical decisions. Hopefully, things will improve.”

Punjabi NRIs part of well-knit narcotics circuit in state

It is an open secret. Acknowledged for their enterprising skills the world over, some Punjabi NRIs, mainly in Canada and the UK, are spreading the illicit multi-crore drug racket in the international market through hawala transactions, also harming the socio-economic fabric of their own motherland.
