It all occurred when “jago” was being taken out in the streets of Shekhan Bazaar and some of guests of the ceremony opened fire from their revolvers in 'joy', police sources said, adding that one of the shots hit the cameraman, identified as Naresh Kumar Bhutto.

The injured cameraman was immediately rushed to the nearby civil hospital from where the two persons who brought him fled away after leaving him with the doctor, sources said.

The doctors attending the injured termed the condition of Bhutto critical as the bullet struck in his abdomen, sources said.

A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered against three persons identified as Sham Sunder Billa, Sarup Singh Bajwa and Sachin, who opened fire during the function.

On Thursday, the injured cameraman succumbed to his injuries and accordingly the section of IPC was changed as 302 (murder) against all the accused, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Naresh Dogra said.

One of the accused, Billa, has been arrested and raids are being conducted to arrest the two absconding accused, Dogra said.
