To motivate voters exercise their franchise, the district election office has announced for them a 50% rebate on bus fare on May 1. The voters can avail the discount by showing the indelible ink mark on their fingers.

Deputy commissioner-cumdistrict electoral officer Tanu Kashyap said the facility would be available within the district on buses of four major private companies.

On Wednesday, the DC also held a meeting with members of self-help groups (SHGs) and exhorted them to play a proactive role in increasing the poll percentage in the district. She suggested that each member of SHG takes at least 10 voters to the polling booth for voting on April 30. She held a separate meeting with nodal officers of educational institutions and asked them to ensure that all students above the age of 18 were enrolled as voters.

The DC revealed that to seek maximum participation of electors in the upcoming elections, a half-marathon was being organised in the city on March 30. “We are using every possible medium, be it Internet, mobile phone or cable TV, to make contact with the voters and encourage them to cast vote. We are also putting up flexes and posters with motivational slogans at visible locations all over the district,” she added.
