The city police have registered a cheating case against three people, including a nambardar who prepared and produced a forged surety bond in a local court.

A Salem Tabri (Ludhiana) resident Karnail Singh, facing trial in a case in the court of judicial magistrate Ist Class Jaswinder Singh, was to get his truck back on 'sapurdari' for which he had to furnish a surety bond.

One Chattar Singh of Hoshiarpur's Gill village appeared in the court to stand as surety but when the court perused the documents, it found that Chattar Singh had stood surety in another state case at the same time. Before the court could question him, he fled from the spot.

To check the authenticity of the 'jamabandi' produced by him, the court wrote to Bhunga naib tehsildar, who found it to be forged.

Consequently, the affidavit submitted by Chattar Singh wherein he declared that he was the owner of the land mentioned in the 'jamabandi', also proved fake. The court then complained to the police to register a forgery case against Karnail Singh, Chattar Singh and Dhoot Kalan village nambardar, Amrik Singh, who had attested to Chattar Singh's ownership.
