A 58-year-old city-based industrialist allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running train at around 7am here on Wednesday morning.

He was reportedly suffering from depression for the past some time due to losses in business. Government Railway Police (GRP), which recovered the mutilated body parts of the victim and informed his family, said prima facie evidence suggested that it was not an accident.

The victim, Chander Mohan Arora, a Kailash Nagar resident, said to have taken the extreme step due to losses in his pipe fitting business due to which he was also not keeping in good health.

Arora jumped before a passenger train coming from Kapurthala near Sodal railway crossing. He was killed on the spot.

GRP additional station house officer (SHO) Surinder Singh said the industrialist took the extreme step by throwing himself in front of the train on Wednesday morning about 7.05am.

“We handed over the victim's body to his family after the post-mortem. The family members said Arora was in depression due to losses in the business. A case has been registered under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC ),” he added.

Arora is survived by his wife and two sons.
