The Congress has come down heavily on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for squandering crores of rupees on issuing advertisements in newspapers with photograph of Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

“For the past 3-4 days a well orchestrated campaign to build the image of Bathinda MP is on through advertisements in the newspapers. This is being done at the cost of the public exchequer,” spokesman of the state Congress, Sukhpal Khaira, told reporters here. He said that the DCs and SSPs concerned had been directed to remain present at the programmes of the MP, he said.

“This preferential treatment is only being given to Harsimrat Kaur merely because she is the daughter-in-law of the CM and wife of the Dy CM,” Khaira said.

He said that this was yet another example of the double standards of the Badal government with elected representatives of the people.

“As far as MPs of the Congress are concerned, they are never invited to government functions nor their names are inscribed on foundation stones or inauguration plates, not even in connection with flagship programmes of the UPA government,” he alleged.

“More shameful is the blatant hijack of all Centre-sponsored flagship programmes, such as SSA, PMGSY, JNRRUM, Rural Health Mission, water augmentation schemes etc., which are being inaugurated by Harsimrat Kaur, while there is no mention of the Prime Minister or the UPA minister concerned,” he said.

He said that, keeping in view the utter neglect of the rights of all other MPs, the Congress demands that all elected representatives irrespective of the party they belong to should be treated at par with the Bathinda MP. “The largesse of public exchequer being showered on Bathinda MP should be stopped without further delay,” he said.
