Congress leader booked with illicit liquor

The Kapurthala police have booked a Congress leader and his associate on the charges of carrying illicit liquor in his car.

The Zen  bearing (HR-26-C-0719) reportedly overturned near new grain market in the wee hours of Wednesday when it was chased by the team of excise officials.

The accused have been identified as Sonu Chouhan, a former block president of Youth Congress and he was accompanied by Bharat Bhushan, a local resident.

The police have recovered 17 cases (204 bottles) of home-made liquor, 500gm of intoxicant powder and two cell-phones from the car. The car was bearing a red-coloured plate on its front with 'President Youth Congress' embedded in golden, which was put on car by the accused without any authority, police sources said.

The police have booked both the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Excise Act and NDPS act.
