The tall claims of the district administration to make the first-time voters' experience "pleasant" apparently fell flat on Wednesday as they did not receive discounts or certificates as promised to them.

The district administration had announced discount at many prominent restaurants and hotels in the city. But surprisingly enough, many outlets listed by the administration were not even aware of such discounts.

Many young voters complained of false promises made by the administration as every restaurant listed by them refused to provide any discount.

The administration had listed six restaurants — Headquarters, Sunny Side Up, Vimpis, Heat 7, Heat 7 buzz, Café Knickerbockers — in its list from where the voter could avail discounts.

The staff at Headquarters, Heat 7 Buzz and Vimpis claimed that they did not know about these discounts.

Sunny Side Up and Heat 7 were providing 15- 20% discount only because their name was published in newspapers.

"We did not get any official communication from the district administration," an employee said.

"When I visited Vimpis, they refused to give any discount saying they were not notified by officials to give any kind of discounts," Rahul, a first-time voter, said.

The district administration also failed to provide appreciation certificates to many first-time voters.

"I cast my vote at Anand Nagar booth in Jalandhar north assembly segment. But no official acknowledged me as a first-time voter. When I asked them about this, they showed no interest in giving me certificate," said Parth, another first-time voter.

Japanpreet Singh, a first time voter in Goraya, said he did not receive any certificate even as he was among the initial 10 first-time voters reach the polling booth at 7:30 am.

The district election officer was not available for comments.
