The Hariana police had first registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) but after public outrage, he was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC also.

During the previous two hearings, the court had declined bail.

While granting him regular bail on Monday, the court ordained that he would not enter victims' village nor try to influence any witness or his bail would be cancelled. The court also asked him to surrender his passport within seven days.

The girls' parents had alleged that Ravi Sher used to stalk the girls. On November 17, when they were returning from the college, he ran his jeep over them. Two girls Sunita and Anuradha had died while Priya was badly injured. The government had provided Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia to kin of both the accused and Rs. 50,000 to the injured.
