A memorandum in this regard, on behalf of parents of the students of school, has been faxed to Jalandhar deputy commissioner, state transport commissioner and stet transport minister by  Sanjay Sehgal, Advisor Member RTI and Grievances Cell of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.

Sehgal said, “At the start of session, the school in question fixed defined transportation charges  Rs. 750 asa transportation charges. This has been doubled to Rs. 1,500, after the state government defined new norms for schools plying buses to ferry children. This hike is unjustified and illogical. Parents are evry upset.”

“This is not the case of one school only, the situation is broadly the same in other schools also. They hike transportation charges to meet the newly defined norms. The hike clearly shows that they were exploiting on the costs of students earlier or they have found an opportunity to mince more money from parents’ pockets,” he added.

“Schools, during admissions assure parents that their ward would be picked and dropped from the place they wish and they fix the charges depending upon the distance. Such a huge increase, that too, when the rates of diesel , clearly exhibit that the schools are taking the advantage of the situations,” said Rajbir Kaur, a mother of local student.

“School authorities are simply exploiting the situartion as there is nobody to regulate them,” said Rajesh Babbar, another local leader

“We demand the state government's intervention so that schools do not indulge in such practices. Sometimes, the tranportation fee exceeds the tuition fee. We demand reversal of this ‘arbitrary’ hike in bus fares and demand immediate reversal," Sehgal added.
