BJP Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna has demanded that the Centre provide help for the kin of two Punjabi youth who were shot dead by robbers in Indiana in the US two days ago.

In a letter to external affairs minister Salman Khurshid, Khanna appealed to the government to help the bereaved families claim the bodies and perform last rites. "The government should reach out to the bereaved families to find out if they want to cremate the bodies in the US itself or want to bring them home," he demanded, adding that the government must take the matter of overseas killing of Indians seriously and should take it up with concerned counterparts.

"A clear and strong signal must go to all countries that we are concerned for the safety of our people," he added.

Drug pangs of Punjab: Punjabi NRIs part of well-knit narcotics circuit
