ETT Teachers Union, on Saturday, burnt the government's effigy to protest the arrest of contract-based CSS (centrally sponsored scheme) teachers.

As many as 83 teachers were arrested and put behind bars when they were demonstrating against the government  on May 1 in Bathinda for not releasing their salaries.

Addressing a rally in Shaheed Udham Singh park, union leaders Ajeeb Diwedi and Vikas Sharma said that demanding salaries was not a crime.

They said the CSS teachers have not been paid for the last 13 months. Instead of redressing their problem, the government used police force to repress their voices, they added, threatening to intensify the agitation, if the arrested teachers were not released immediately and not paid their dues.
