Potato growers of Hairan, Kotla, Kang, Mallian, Ball, Eeda, Gill, Khanpur, Seowal, Hussainpur, Sedupur,Talwandi, Khiva and Memmudpur villages have shut down the 220 KW substation at the Kotla Janga village and started an indefinite dharna inside the substation complex on Thursday to protest against erratic power supply.

Addressing a protest rally, farmer leaders said that the PowerCom has changed 15-year-old day time supply schedule to potato growing areas and they were being supplied power, only on alternate days.

Kotla Janga substation in-charge, assistant engineer Gurpal Chand claimed that the sub-station had been closed to prevent any untoward incident.

He said power supply to 8 sub-stations of Nakodar and Shahkot sub-divisions had been impacted due to non-operation of the sub-station.

Nakodar sub-urban division executive engineer SP Singh told mediapersons that the problem had been brought to the notice of PowerCom officials.

Chief engineer Powercom Jalandhar SS Sana reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitating farmers and promised them that their grievances would be resolved by Friday.
