Garments worth lakhs were gutted in fire in two showrooms situated at Model Town here on the intervening night of Wednesday.

Fire tenders took at least three hours to control the fire which started at around 12.30am and continued raging till 4am. The exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Three shops in the 'One Stop Shop' showroom were completely destroyed while the two-storeyed building of US Polo House garment showroom was also gutted.

Kulwant Singh, owner of the 'One Stop Shop' showroom said that fire tenders failed to reach on time. He also alleged that the first tender came with less water and the second came without foam due to which fire was controlled very late and clothes worth lakhs were gutted.

He said that he has yet to assess the exact loss.
