Health dept collects food samples, inspects toilets

The health authorities collected food samples from various eateries in Jalandhar Cantonment and meat shops near Urban Estate Phase 1 here on Monday.

The raid was conducted by a health team comprising district health officer Dr Balwinder Singh and food safety officers Dr Harjotpal Singh and Sukhrao Singh under the supervision of civil surgeon Dr RL Bassan.

Dr Harjotpal said they had issued instructions to the shop owners to maintain hygienic standards. The team also inspected the toilets at four petrol pumps in the city.

Constable dies under mysterious circumstances

A 22-year-old Punjab Police constable died under mysterious circumstances in a resort on Chintpurni road on Thursday. Officials said he died of heart attack. Lovedeep Singh, who was deployed with Jalandhar (rural) police, was on special duty at Chohal due to the Mata Chintpurni fair.
