Ahead of the visit of president Pranab Mukherjee to the city on Monday, an abandoned briefcase at the Choggittee area spread panic among residents and the police on Saturday. Bomb disposal squad was called in and it was found to be a hoax.

At around 3 pm, shopkeepers in the Choggittee area saw the briefcase and informed the police. A PCR van first inspected the spot and then a large number of police personnel cordoned off the area.

The bomb disposal squad was called in and finally the briefcase was found to contain some documents and a personal diary. The brief belongs to one Rampal.

“Rampal was contacted. He has claimed that he said that forgot the briefcase opposite a dry-cleaning shop in Choggittee,” Rama Mandi police station SHO Bimal Kant told HT.
