In-laws booked for deserting girl on delivering a girl

The Jalandhar police have booked four members of a Hyderabad-based family for abandoning her after she delivered a baby girl at a Hyderabada hospital in January this year.

"My husband abandoned me Ikon Hospital, Hyderabad, after I gave  birth to a girl. My mother, Usha, somehow managed to arrange money for me to get me discharged from the hospital. I was not taken in their house when I wanted to move on March 13 this year," complianant Mercy Masih, 33, had told the police.

Jalandghar Central MLA Manoranjan Kalia persued the case, after Mercy approached her for help in seeking justice. Additional deputy commissioner of police Naresh Dogra called the victim on Tuesday and recorded her statement.

"On the girl's statement, we have booked her husband Dushyant, father-in-law Balram Sharma, mother-in-law Bira Devi and sister-in-law Rajni Sharma under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 495 (concealing previous marriage before remarrying), 498-A (subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC," said Navi Baradari SHO Vijay Kunwar Pal.
