The state information commission has directed the public information officer (PIO) and the first appeal authority (FAA) of director local bodies Chandigarh to appear before information commissioner RS Negi over denial of information under the RTI Act. The PIO has been asked to appear before the commission at 2 pm on April 4.
Dilbag Singh, a resident of Baina Pur village, had filed an application and appeal with the two officials, seeking a copy of action taken report on investigation conducted by vigilance team of local bodies department, which had raided the office of nagar council Nakodar on March 4, 2011, and had unearthed several irregularities.
The case pertained to a complaint lodged against NC Nakodar in connection with Rs. 2 crore grant released by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal six years ago.
The chief vigilance officer's report had indicted eleven officials and employees of the NC for irregularities in development work. The report called for action against the executive officer and cancellation of the resolution passed by the NC on December 2, 2011, declaring all works as satisfactory.
After failing to receive the information within the stipulated period of 30 days, Singh first appealed to the FAA and then moved the commission.
