The building committee members, including justice TPS Mann, justice Ajay Tewari, justice MMS Bedi, justice Fatehdeep Singh along with justice AK Mittal, the inspecting judge of Jalandhar courts, held a meeting with Mandeep Singh Sachdev, the president of Bar Association and its secretary Satnam Singh Hundal on Thursday.

For constructing the chambers, the land will be given free of cost to the Bar Association and its members will invest their own money for construction of chambers.

A total of 640 new chambers will be constructed in a multi-storey building and each chamber will be shared by two advocates. Facilities of canteen and parking would also be made available.

The lawyers through the Bar Association were fighting for the new chambers for the past 15 years due to increase in number of lawyers and acute shortage of chambers.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Mandeep Singh Sachdev said it was a long battle of 15 years to get approval for the new chambers and association members specially thank justice AK Mittal for this.

Sachdev added that the association would soon call tenders for construction of chambers, which will be done into three phases under the supervision of building committee of the Punjab and Haryana high court and state government's officials.

He added that the association has 1,660 members and every member is eligible to get a chamber. He said the condition of existing chambers has become pathetic and were crying for immediate repair.
