Former minister and newly appointed general secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Joginder Singh Mann said that the state Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa deserves kudos for ending the trend of 'parachute politics' in party affairs, by constituting his team in a fair manner.

He lamented that there was a time in PPCC when only a coterie managed the affairs of the party in five star hotels and the workers of the party were blatantly ignored.

He said that the result of this was that the base of the party was eroded due to which the Congress suffered adverse reverses in two assembly polls. However, Mann said that the credit of changing the entire scenario in party goes to Bajwa as he has worked hard to bring to the fore those leaders and workers who have served the party with 'sweat and toil'.

Mann said that it was perhaps for the first time in the recent past that a PPCC has been constituted while keeping in view the merit of each and every person rather than giving preference to the 'parachute' leaders.

He said that every section of the society has been given adequate representation in this body, which would further help in rejuvenating the party. The former minister said that it was not the time to celebrate but it was a time to introspect and put all out efforts for strengthening the party in wake of the coming general elections.

He said that they have a big challenge not only of mobilising the voters but also gearing up the party cadre for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, so as to win all the 13 Lok Sabha seats.
