Kidnapped infant recovered; 2 held

The Nakodar city police on Sunday claimed to have solved a 20-day-old case kidnapping case of a 4-month-old, with arrest of a cousin of the boy's father and his accomplice. The missing infant was also recovered and handed over to his parents.


Addressing a press conference, Nakodar city SHO GS Sidhu said that the accused had been identified as Harwinder Kumar alias Manni, a nephew of Jasbir Kumar the father of rescued infant.

Harwinder Kumar's accomplice, Sagar alias Chuhi also of Rehmanpura, has also been arrested.

The duo kidnapped Dharmveer from his housed in Rehmanpura on October 16 night and took him to Gopi, a resident of Nurpur Lubhana village in Kapurthala in Manni's car (PB-08-H-0113).

The SHO said that Manni wanted to sell the child to his friend Gopi, who wanted to adopt a child for his sister Paramajit. The SHO added that Gopi paid Rs. 1 lakh to Manni for Dharmveer and handed over the baby to his sister, a resident of Kapurthala. The missing child was recovered from Paramjit Kaur at Kapurthala.

The Nakodar city police had registered a case under Section 365 (Kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the IPC on October 16.
