MC unions stage protest seeking DA hike

Different unions of the Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar on Friday staged a protest in front of the mayor's office, demanding 90 per cent dearness allowance (DA).


The protesters said they were annoyed as mayor Sunil Jyoti was sitting on the file to increase their DA from 80 per cent to 90 per cent.

About 150 employees from various unions, including SC/BC Employees Union, Nagar Nigam Sevadaar Employee Union, Water Supply Technical Worker Committee and Street Light Employees Union, raised slogans against the state government and the mayor.

Prem Kumar, convener of SC/BC Committee, said the MC had been delaying payment of DA and now it was not paying 90% DA to employees.

"We will stop working if our demand to increase DA is not accepted," the protesting staff warned.

Later, the protest was ended by the employees after the mayor accepted their request to increase their DA.
