The Punjab police had arrested his widowed  mother Salinder Kaur and sister Kulwinder Kaur in March and recovered sophisticated weapons including one 7.65mm auto pistol, one 0.9 mm US made pistol, one .30 bore mouser, one .32 bore revolver, two country-made pistols, three magazines and live cartridges from their house in Possi. Both are now out on bail.

They were booked by the Garhshankar police under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) 1967 and Arms Act for being part of the terror module and handling its funds.

Later, Balwinder's nephew (Kulwinder's son) Daljit Singh, who was also named in the FIR, was also arrested from Delhi airport on his return from Malaysia and brought here. He is still lodged in the district jail. Balwinder himself is also named in the FIR.

Balwinder was wanted in the twin bomb blast case in which three persons were killed and several injured in Jalandhar in 2006.

The main accused Satnam Singh Satta was arrested but Balwinder had fled to the US and sought asylum. Indian security agencies have been pursuing his extradition.

He is said to have links with Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Zindabad Force.

If convicted, Balwinder can face life imprisonment whereas his kin can attract imprisonment of up to 7 years under the UAPA.
