The body of the 22-year-old youth of Talwara, missing since January 23, was recovered from Mukerian hydel channel on Sunday.

Hemant Kumar, a B Tech student at the CT institute in Jalandhar, had left a suicide note, on the basis of which the police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against one of his colleagues Akshay Kumar, a resident of Kothi village in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district.

In the note, he had written that Akshay had created a misunderstanding between him and one of his women colleagues whom he treated as his sister.

He said as a result of this, the girl was not responding to his phone calls. "My soul would rest in peace when Akshay is handed over severest possible punishment," he wrote. He apologised to his parents for his act.

Dasuya dputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sukhwinder Singh revealed that the aggrieved family had lodged a missing complaint with the police on January 23.

"Today, we received information that a body was recovered from the channel. We called up the family who confirmed that it was Hemant' body", he said. He said a police party would be sent to Himachal Pradesh to arrest the accused.

The body was handed over to the kin after post mortem. The deceased's father Dharamjit is a patwari in the state revenue department.
