Nawanshahr admn rescues 22 labourers stuck in Sutlej

The district administration rescued 22 labourers who were trapped in the flood waters of the Sutlej on Saturday.


After getting information that the labourers were trapped, the administration immediately initiated rescue operations to save them on Saturday morning.

According to information, labourers were removing poplars grown on land situated in the Sutlej on Friday when suddenly the water level of the river started rising, following which they were trapped.

Deputy commissioner Anindita Mitra immediately formed a team and sent DSP Sarbjit Singh Bahia and naib tehsildar Sanjay Sharma along with Rahon SHO Gurbant Singh to the spot.

The level of water was about 8 feet and rescuing of labourers was possible only by boat.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, officers arranged a boat to save the labourers. The rescue operation that was carried for an hour and a half was monitored by the deputy commissioner.
