The state health department had given advertisements of tenders worth `50lakh for renovation and repair works of the hospital building and medical equipments in various newspapers.

Now, the state health department has decided to issue fresh advertisements for tenders for the same works.

To develop the hospital as a 'model' one in the state, the state government has sanctioned a grant of `50lakh and tenders to this effect were floated on January 21.

The last date of filing tenders was February 1, but no one filed any bid for the works.

The duration of completion of these works was set two months as per the promise of the health minister. On December 20, 2013, Jyani had visited the civil hospital and got a shock of his life after noticing the poor condition n of the building of the hospital.

The minister had expressed unhappiness with the sorry state affairs in the civil hospital after finding several discrepancies including leakage of water pipes, blockage of sewerage system, even basic equipments including ventilators, air-conditioners, and monitors were found non-functional.

When contacted, director Karanjit Singh said that he was not able to tell the present status of the tenders and advised the HT team to contact the superintendent engineer of Punjab health system corporation.

While, Barjinder Singh Brar, chairman of  the Punjab health system corporation confirmed that no contractor responded to earlier tenders which were worth `50 lakh of works in Jalandhar civil hospital and new tenders have also been floated for the same works with the same amount. He said that February 20 has been set the new date of opening the tenders and hoped that this time the  department would receive several bids.
