Nurmahal area residents have expressed anguish over the failure of Nakodar MLA GS Wadala and prominent local citizens to select land for the construction of new building for the Government Senior Secondary School (co-educational).
Director general school education has released `57.15 lakh as the first installment for the construction of school building out of total sanctioned amount of `114.31 lakh in October following directions from the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC).
Concerned educational officials had selected a site behind the government elementary school describing it as technically fit for the school building. But a Ram Lila committee is opposing this proposal and has installed a religious flag on the site claiming it as a part of the Ram Lila ground.
Residents have demanded that school building should be constructed at the site of the old building which has now been demolished.
A complaint regarding the delay in construction of a proper building for school students is pending with the PSHRC which would come up for further hearing on March 5.Complainant Aditya Bhatara has urged the commission to direct director general school education to accelerate the process of construction of school building.
