Patients at the local civil hospital here are unable to make use of the ultra sound facility in absence of a scan expert.
Earlier, a scan expert was posted here after the direction of Punjab and Haryana high court, but after his promotion and transfer to Government Medical College at Amritsar, the service has been disrupted.
Nakodar senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Pushkar Kumar informed that the scan expert, who had joined in July 2012, was relieved on Friday.
Absence of a scan expert would be a problem for expecting mothers who are entitled to free scan facility for safe delivery of the child. Now they would be referred to Jalandhar civil hospital for scanning, he said, adding that the number of deliveries till October 31 were 190 in the hospital.
He said that he had taken up the issue with high officials but as they are making no alternate arrangements, patients are forced to shell out Rs. 500 for each scan in the open market as compared to Rs. 150 at the hospital.
