The situation in diarrhoea-affected localities of the city— Gandhi Camp and Bhargo Camp— returned to normal after only one suspected case of the disease was reported on Sunday.

No fresh case of diarrhoea was reported at Gandhi Camp. Health teams on Sunday did not find any fresh cases at Bhagatpura where four cases of jaundice were reported on Saturday. Three health teams surveyed more than 300 houses in these localities and distributed 10,000 chlorine tablets among residents. Only six cases of fever were reported during a medical camp at Gandhi Camp on Sunday.

The health department has issued orders to the urban malaria wing comprising over 70 staff members, including field workers and supervisors, not to go on leave for the next two months when most of the cases of water-borne diseases occur in the district.

Jalandhar member of Parliament (MP) Chaudhary Santokh Singh visited Gandhi Camp and Bhargo Camp and talked to residents who complained of receiving contaminated water for the past few days.

Chaudhary asked the municipal corporation to supply clean drinking water to residents. He also met the families of five-year-old Aryan in Gandhi camp and Hanso Devi at Bhargo Camp, both of whom reportedly died due to diarrhoea last week.
