One arrested with 100 passports

Police claimed to have arrested Surjit Singh of Kaler Walan village in Amritsar after seizing 100 passports from his possession on Thursday morning.

He along with two others had issued fake visa cards to nearly 200 people permit visa to them and duped them on the pretext of sending them to Singapore.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team of the Division Number-7 police station raided at the office of Shalimar Enterprises, a travel agency being run by three friends — Bablu of Kotla village, Rajesh Kumar of Mehta Chowk, Amritsar, and Surjit Singh.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Model Town, Manpreet Singh said they used to lure customers by catchy advertisements in newspaper. "They have swindled nearly 200 persons so far," said the ACP.

"The trio was charging Rs. 60, 000 initially to make one passport and assuring that they would take remaining money Rs. 1.4 lakh when customer reaches in Singapore after getting the visa," said the ACP.

The officer added that teams had been dispatched to arrest Bablu and Rajesh from Amritsar and its nearby areas.

The ACP said Surjit was produced in a local court on Thursday, which sent him into the police custody till April 12.

A case under various sections has been registered against them.
