High drama prevailed at government elementary school on Nakodar road on Thursday when a mother of three students slapped female teachers. The teachers' fault was they tried to stop her from forcibly taking away another girl student from the school with whom her daughter had a fight on Wednesday.

Eyewitnesses said Kamaljeet Kaur, whose kids are studying in Class 3, reached the school along with her husband Prem Pal and tried to take away another student, Madhu, forcibly from the school, to which a teacher objected.

Pankaj Babu, a school teacher, said, “Children of Kamaljeet Kaur had an argument with Madhu, their classmate, and the bag of one of them was torn. The parents of three kids had a fight with the parents of Madhu on Wednesday night and on Thursday they came to the school and tried to beat up Madhu by taking her out of the school. When two women teachers tried to stop them, Kamaljeet slapped them, while her husband manhandled and pushed them.”

When school staff gathered around and raised objection, Kamaljeet tore her clothes and started levelling false allegations, the teacher said, adding that, “We have submitted a complaint at the city police station and have brought the matter to the notice of higher authorities as well.”

“How can school teachers perform their duties in such an insecure environment? The parents while leaving the premises also threatened us of dire consequences if we approached police,” a woman teacher said.

Station house officer of city police station, BM Ladhar, when contacted, said, “We have received a complaint from the school staff and will not allow anyone to take law in their hands. After recording the statements, necessary action will be taken against the accused.”
