The family members of a patient who died at a private hospital on Phagwara Road created ruckus while protesting against the doctor concerned and demanded a criminal case against him.

The victim, Gurdev Singh (52), of Talwandi Arayian village was brought to the Satnam Hospital on June 27 for spinal problem. The family members said when Gurdev did not respond to the treatment Dr Sukhnandan Singh consulted an outside doctor and on his advice started giving him injections.

They alleged that two days ago, the dose was suddenly increased which proved fatal. Balkar Singh, the victim’s brother, said the doctor and staff failed to take necessary remedial measures.

Dr Sukhnandan’s father and hospital director Tarlochan Singh refuted the charges, stating it was being done to malign the hospital’s reputation.

He said the patient and his attendants were asked to approach a neurologist but they insisted on staying back. The patient and his brother had given written consent for outside treatment, he said adding the patient was doing well and his sudden death was surprising.
