Terming the e-Trip system as harassment to trade and industrial community, plywood manufacturers association on Monday went on 3-day strike to press for the rollback of anti-tax evasion measure. In a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Surinder Mittal, it was decided to keep the business closed till July 24.

Mittal said that the e-Trip (Transportation Information within Punjab) system would hinder industrial growth. "We will have no other option than shifting our base to neighbouring states", he warned. He said that majority of the small industrial units did not have computers or internet experts to implement the system, adding that the system itself was not fault free.

State government has brought six commodities; plywood, steel, iron, cotton, mustard, yarn and vegetable oil under e-Trip to check evasion. Under this system, any trader selling these goods worth above Rs. 50,000 within the state would be required to submit information regarding the transaction on the website of the department before physical movement of the goods takes place.
