An Innova, looted from its driver at gunpoint on 66 Ft Road on July 5 was recovered by the Bathinda police along with another car on Friday from Bhucho Mandi.

The accused were identified as Jaspal Singh, 31, sarpanch of Phoola village, and Satnam Singh, 21, resident of Jhanduke village, both in Bathinda.

The police claimed that a nine-member gang led by Jaspal, the kingpin, was operating for the past few months and had robbed cars in different states.

Jaspal, along with three others, had robbed an Innova (PB08AT-8328) belonging to Avtar Singh, resident of Jandiala Manjaki, Jalandhar, on July 5.

The police said both Jaspal and Satnam had confessed that they had hired a car from Jalandhar and on the way took the car away from its driver at gunpoint.

Nathana police station SHO Ucee Chawla said, “The Bathinda police have identified all the nine members, including women, and efforts are on to arrest them soon.”

Satnam also confessed that they had robbed a Swift from Malout and a Swift Dzire from Abohar at gunpoint five to six months ago.
