Tough groping in the dark for nearly a month and a half to find a lead about gangster Daljit Singh Bhana’s whereabouts, the clueless Jalandhar police commissionerate has roped in two national-level news channels to telecast Bhana’s crime story.

Last week, police had uploaded the picture of Bhana — a proclaimed offender who has been booked in a triple-murder case — on its official Facebook page for some tip-off, but to no avail.

However, when police efforts to nab the Bhana gang kingpin failed, they decided to get Bhana story telecast in programmes like ‘Wardaat’ and ‘Sansani’ with the motive to spread information about the most-wanted criminal among masses so that police could get a lead about him and his accomplices.

The crime history of Bhana — started almost 10-year ago when the first criminal case against him was registered at the Sadar police station on August 10, 2004 —have been provided to programme heads of both the news channels by police.

Police commissioner Ishwar Singh said: “The telecast of Bhana story is an effort to spread information about the gangster among the public at large.” He hoped that any tip-off about Bhana whereabouts would be helpful in his arrest.

However, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Model Town, Manpreet Singh said: “Police have got vital clue about the accused and we would soon nab them.”

THE MURDER

On February 26, six members of Bhana gang allegedly opened fire at three youths, killing two outside a gym in Tara Singh Avenue at 7.10am, owing to their “old rivalry”.

The duo — Simranjeet (23) and Deepansh (19) — succumbed to their injuries, while the third, Randeep (20), was admitted at a private hospital.

During 43-day-long investigation, police used various means to get a lead about Bhana’s whereabouts, but nothing has come out so far.

After the incident, police team raided in Bihar, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and even roamed there for weeks to nab Bhana and accomplishes, but to no avail. Besides, police teams also visited many jails in Ropar, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Patiala and even met Bhana’s old allies and other criminals last month for a clue.

It is learnt that some criminals have revealed to police about possible whereabouts of Bhana, which was subsequently raided by police, but it did not work.

Police also quizzed the kingpin’s ex-girlfriend a few days back. Police have also issued lookout notices, which have been served at various exit points of the country, including the Nepal border.

Besides, advertisements through local news channels and posters also failed to yield any result for police.
