In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, PTU registrar HS Bains said that BoG meeting, presided over by its chairman and renowned industrialist SK Munjal, unanimously approved the proposal to uphold its decision taken on October 5, 2011 with regard to grant of another three years term to Arora as the vice chancellor.

Bains said that as per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the board reviewed its earlier decision and found the same as per rules.

“The university is moving forward in the right direction under vice chancellor’s able leadership and we intend to continue with this momentum in the years to come,” he quipped.

It is pertinent to mention here that Narinder Paul Singh, a former dean (distance education) had challenged the extension granted to Arora.

On July 08, 2013, the division bench of the chief justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and justice Augustine George Masih had given six weeks time to the board to review its decision as per rules.

Singh had been suspended allegedly on account of irregularities and was subsequently terminated from the post. He had also challenged termination orders. Arora was appointed as the VC on December 19, 2008 for three years.

Arora said that he was thankful to the board for reposing faith in him and bestowing confidence in his professional abilities.

“The board has considered me worthy of the position yet again. I will strive even harder not just to meet up but exceed board’s expectations when it comes to imparting best technical education at par with global standards. This decision also reinforces PTU’s commitment to major reforms for betterment of affairs,” he quipped.
