Rape convict sentenced for 7 years

A rape convict was sentenced to 7-year rigorous imprisonment on Saturday by the court of additional session judge JS Bhinder.


Pawan Kumar of Khanaura village had abducted and raped a 16-year old girl of the same village in the month of January.

The complainant, who was then a student of Class 11 in a government school, had stated that when she was waiting for a bus to return home, Pawan Kumar had forcibly taken her to Rajpur Bhaiyan village by pointing a knife and raped her. A case was registered the same day at Mehtiana police station.

The court sentenced the convict for abduction, rape and criminal intimidation. A fine of Rs. 19,000 was also imposed on him under various Sections of IPC. The same court sentenced Ranjit Singh alias Rana of Bharowal village to 10-year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. one lakh in a smuggling case. Garhdiwala police had recovered 70 kilogram poppy husk from his custody in May 2011.
