Science City, PTU to start mobile science exhibition bus

In order to enthuse students to take up careers in science and technology and to create public awareness especially amongst the rural population, the Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) in association with Punjab Technical University (PTU) is going to start a state-wide mobile science exhibition bus.

 
The PGSC director RS Khandpur and PTU  vice chancellor Rajneesh Arora signed a memorandum of understanding for this joint mobile exhibition-cum-demonstration facility during 17th foundation day of the university held here on Wednesday.
 
Khandpur informed that in order to supplement formal science education and to create excitement amongst the students about science and technology, we would demonstrate galleries with interactive exhibits providing hands-on and minds-on experiences.
 
“This van would help in young minds to think global, generate innovative ideas to pursue a career in research and enhance their capabilities. The mobile van will visit across the state especially in rural areas to inculcate the scientific aptitude and temperament among the rural masses in the young minds to promote active learning and spirit of inquiry”, he said.
 
He added that the students would be made aware of problems related to sustainable development, including energy and environment conservation and importance of preventive health including education and awareness on health and hygiene.
 
He said that we would also develop special sections to disseminate scientific information on various contemporary issues, especially in the field of astronomy to popularize it among the students.
 
“This van would work for better understanding of the scientific and technological concepts leading to improvement in higher scientific and technical education”.
 
According to the MoU, PTU would provide bus and would modify it as per the design provided by PGSC keeping in view the objectives of the programme, the type of scientific experiments to be accommodated and other exhibits for creating scientific awareness.
 
The university would also bear the expenses of the vehicle including road tax, insurance charges. While PGSC would make arrangement to equip the bus with capital items, equipment and other resource material required for successful operation of the bus.
