In a unique initiative to make students aware of sexual abuse of children, deputy commissioner Tanu M Kashyap has asked the SDMs and district education officer to hold special screening of 'Satyamev Jayate' episode that highlighted the issue in all government and private schools of the district.

The order came after an NGO, Help, approached the DC on February 7 and requested her to aware the schoolchildren about the menace so that they don't fall prey to such incidents.

The second episode of 'Satyamev Jayate', hosted by Aamir Khan, had highlighted the issue of child sex abuse and revealed that every second child in the country is victimised sexually.

Aamir had organised a 'good touch, bad touch' workshop for children in the show and had received kudos from across the country.

The deputy commissioner has asked the sub-divisional magistrates of Nawanshahr, Banga, Balachaur and the district education officer to comply with the order and submit a report within one month to her.

The public relations department has also been ordered to arrange broadcasting of the episode on local cable network so that maximum children can be saved from abuse.

The NGO also gave a CD of the episode to director general school education Kahan Singh Pannu, requesting him to issue such guidelines to schools across the state.

Speaking with Hindustan Times over phone, Pannu said, “It is a good idea to make children aware of the deep-rooted problem.”

“Actually, I have not seen the episode. I have asked the officials to pick points from the episode, so that students can be made aware of the problem in a similar manner,” said Pannu.

Help general secretary Parwinder Singh Kittna said that workshops as held in Satyamev Jayate could go a long way in checking child sex abuse.
