To strengthen security in the cantonment, the city police has launched a special campaign to beef up night vigil and has directed the residents to carry ID proof, especially during the night.

“Visitors in the cantonment area are advised to carry their identity proof. Stern action will be action if anybody is found violating this order," said additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Parminder Singh Bhandal.

Security has been beefed up in the area during the day and cops have been made deployed outside schools and colleges to tackle cases of sexual harassment.

The ADCP added that a night officer will check and maintain a register for people roaming in the area during night to curtail incidents of crime. He added that if anybody is carrying heavy cash that person should inform the area SHO.

Post the bank robbery incident, the ADCP has even asked his officials to take a look into the security systems of moneychangers, check their alarms and CCTV cameras.
