Criticising the Punjab government for its inability to safeguard the honor and dignity of women, the Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress has demanded the transfer of Nawanshahr SSP, Dhanpreet Kaur for failing to register a complaint against Honey Singh, till the court ordered the registration of a case.
Following strictures passed by the Punjab and Haryana high court for not taking action against Honey Singh, the Nawanshahr Police finally booked him under Section 294 (obscene acts and songs to the annoyance of others in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Previously, the Nawanshahr police had refused to register a case, maintaining that a case against him was already registered outside the state.
Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress vice-president Nimisha Mehta said that the singer picturises women as a commodity and his songs passed lewd comments on women.
"It is the duty of the home minister to clarify why the Nawanshahr police failed to register an FIR, in spite of a recommendation against him," said Mehta.
"We will organise a seminar to deliberate on the increased use of vulgarity in Punjabi songs. Personalities from the field of Punjabi films and music will be invited to the state. The Congress will work towards curbing vulgarity from Punjabi culture," she said.
