Kulbir Singh, 60, additional deputy commissioner (general) of Tarn Taran district, was killed here on Monday morning in a head-on collision between a car and a mini-truck.
The ADC, who was driving the car, was on his way to Tarn Taran from Jalandhar, his hometown, along with Paramjeet Singh, secretary, market committee, Tarn Taran.
At about 10.15am, when they reached a curve at Mundi Mour village near Goindwal Sahib, the ADC failed to notice a Tata-Ace mini-truck coming from the opposite side and the car got involved in a head-on collision.
A policeman, deputed on guard duty at the Goindwal Sahib bridge, pulled Kulbir out of the car after breaking the front glass and dashboard.
Kulbir, Paramjeet and Jaswant Singh, driver of the truck, were taken to a private hospital at Goindwal Sahib where the ADC and Paramjeet were referred to a trauma centre at Jalandhar while Jaswant was referred to the civil hospital at Tarn Taran.
Kulbir was declared brought dead at the trauma centre while the condition of Paramjeet and Jaswant was reported critical but out of danger, hospital sources said.
Around 15 people were reported to be travelling in the truck. They were going to Kapurthala after visiting Gurdwara Goindwal Sahib. All of them suffered minor injuries and were discharged after administering them first aid at a hospital.
The police have registered a case at Talwandi Choudharian police station in Kapurthala district.
