With a view to promoting Gujarat chief minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narender Modi in the run-up to the coming Lok Sabha elections, a support group christened as 'Team Modi Punjab' has been formed by various businessmen, entrepreneurs and students in the state.

"The support group will traverse through streets of every district to publicise the policies of Narender Modi, formulated by him for the development of Gujarat," state president of 'Team Modi Punjab,' Sanjay Verma said while addressing a press conference here on Sunday

Verma said that district-level units of the new organisation have also been formed in 11 districts of Punjab so far and each such unit has around 100 members.

He said that members of the organisation are not having any political background and most them are businessmen, entrepreneurs, marketing managers, students and others.

He said, "We are not supporters of Bhartiya Janata Party as such but we want to see Modi as the next prime minister since the people are fed up of the wrong policies of the Congress-led UPA government and the scams which were unearthed during its tenure of about 10 years."

Verma, a Ludhiana-based businessman, revealed that the members of this body came into contact with each other through Facebook as they all are in favour of Modi as the next prime minister of the country.

He said these Facebook friends later decided to form a platform to promote Narender Modi in the coming general elections by way of publicising his policies and ideas. "This is how Team Modi Punjab was set up," he added.

The members of the support group present at the press conference came from various cities and towns of the state including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Moga, Dinanagar, Jagraon and Patiala.

He said that prices of essential commodities have increased so much that the common man is not able to make both ends meet.

Criticising the UPA government for its soft foreign policy, Verma said that the country was not safe in its hands as Pakistan and China had given an open challenge to India time and again by indulging in misadventures on the borders, but the government has always been acting as a mute spectator.

Verma also gave a power-point presentation highlighting the works done by Narender Modi for the development of Gujarat on one hand and the scams which were unearthed during the tenure of the UPA government, including those relating to allocation of coal mines, Commonwealth Games and 2G spectrum.
