Police said two separate cases had been registered at the Sadar and Model Town police stations against the fake travel agents. All the three accused are absconding, they added.

Baldev Raj, resident of Bhawani Nagar, alleged that Gurdial Singh of Akash Colony and Mohinder Pal of Nangal Shaheedan, took Rs. 7 lakh and his son's passport after promising to send him to Japan, police said. However, they neither sent his son to Japan, nor returned his money, they added.

In another case, Vinod Kumar of Basti Tirathnath in Jalandhar allegedly took Rs. 1.6 lakh from Sunil Kumar of Kamalpur, after promising to send him to Italy, police said. However, Vinod failed to fulfil his promise and did not return the money to Sunil Kumar.

Case too hot: Police probe a cover-up?

Busted with the arrest of Anoop Singh Kahlon, an NRI, by the Fatehgarh Sahib police in March 2013, it led to the arrest of alleged kingpin Jagdish Bhola, a dismissed Punjab deputy superintendent of police (DSP), in November last year.
