TV channel, serial makers booked for hurting religious feelings

The city police have charged owners of a TV channel and its serial producer, director and others with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feeling of a community by insulting its religious beliefs.


Station house officer (SHO) Subash Bath said among those booked include Ekta Kapoor, her mother Shobha Kapoor, daughter and wife of film actor Jatinder, respectively; producer of serial "Pavitra Rishta", its director Samir Kulkarni, serial's creative head Meghna Amal and actors, all residents of Mumbai.

Bhagwan Balmik Sewa Dal, Punjab, president Rauni Gill, a resident of Shankar village and others, had complained to the police that the suspects hurt religious feeling of the Balmik community during the telecast of "Pavitra Rishta" on Zee TV on August 5 at 9.30pm.

They said word 'lootera' (robber) was repeatedly used for Bhagwan Balmik in the serial. The telecast was repeated on August 6. A case under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feeling of any class by insulting its religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the suspects.
