The district police have booked two jail inmates on charges of attacking a former Jalandhar councillor Dinesh Dhall on Saturday evening and transferred them both to Hoshiarpur.
Dinesh Dhall, who was under trial in a case under section 295-A and 307 of Indian Penal Code in a scuffle held at Cool Road Jalandhar on Tuesday evening, was targeted by a group of under-trials on Saturday evening and got injured.
Earlier he was provided first-aid in the prison hospital but by 11.30pm, he was shifted to the Civil Hospital at Kapurthala.
“Surinder Singh, Pushpinder Singh Noni, Jassi, Pamma, Sukhmeet and some other unidentified associates were mocking fight in the jail premises when I was passing by after meeting a person. From their actions, I got conscious that they had something different in their minds. Soon, they reached me and attacked on my neck using a spoon, which was sharpened like a blade. I managed to survive as I was bit conscious,” revealed Dinesh while talking to HT in Civil hospital Kapurthala where he was lodged in prisoner’s ward.
“Soon they started attacking on me. I managed to reach the gate of the barrack during hand to hand scuffle with them. One of them threw a brick on my head which hit me severely. Later jail wardens reached the site and controlled the situation,” he added.
Some old personal grudges with a particular group could be the cause of attack on me, he further added.
Meanwhile, jail superintendent SP Khanna when contacted refuted the use of sharpened spoons by the attackers. “On our investigations, it was found that they used sharpened half bricks for attacking on Dinesh Dhall. We have booked both the accused, Surinder Singh and Pushpinder Singh Noni, under sections 307, 323, 324 and 148 of Indian Penal Code and shifted them to Hoshiarpur central Jail today.”
